I was born and raised in Hong Kong, a cosmopolitan city influenced by Western and Asian cultures. In Hong Kong, electronic music from the UK significantly influenced me and those in the scene. Despite Hong Kong not being known as a hub for electronic music, our community is vibrant, and everyone knows each other. A legendary club I used to go to that significantly impacted me was Phi-Bar, known today as Oma Club, which I mention below. It is very dear to my heart. It has played the best underground electronic music for over two decades.
The inspiration for this mix is love and hope. The music I select for my mixes is a mixture of tracks from my friends and new artists I discover. I hope listeners can feel my love for the music. It always makes me smile when I play a track from the artists and labels I know or play with. It's like a time machine that reminds me of good old times.
In this mix, I included my most recent collaboration with Andrey Sirotkin, Dimah - (I-Robots Edit), on one of my favorite labels, Opilec Music from Turin. You will also find Edgar Peng’s Bacchant, part of 20 Years of Golden Gate Club Vol.1, celebrating Berlin’s legendary club. My friends Camilo Gil and Moving Pictures are also featured in this mix. Enjoy!
Bakery:
This is a delicious bakery run by my good friend, DJ, and a fantastic chef, Russell Doctrove. Each of these patties is made by hand and with love. Patty Boi pays homage to the chilled culture of the Caribbean islands with an array of distinct and striking flavors inspired by the streets of the world and the strains that leave us in a happy haze. Patty Boi explores savory and sweet fillings, making them perfect for eating morning, noon, or night. Patti Boi also comes with a Spotify playlist designed to go hand in hand with their freshly baked patties!
Bars:
It's a great place to go if you like gin tonics and tapas. They have an attractive interior design and atmosphere with excellent local DJs, and occasionally, they host surprise techno guest DJs from Europe. Think of it as Hong Kong’s best speakeasy bar.
Clubs:
I’ve been a resident at Oma since 2008. This small club in the Central district of Hong Kong has been faithful to its underground vibes, and its signature well-tuned Funktion One System keeps the energy high and fun. The crowd is full of music lovers, and it's always fun playing here.
Record Store:
A small record store located in the Sham Shui Po district. Run by 65-year-old Paul Au, who lives in a 5th-floor 300-square-foot room that serves a music store. There are loads of second-hand vinyl from the 70s and 80s. Every vinyl lover knows this store. You must be prepared to climb over boxes to dig, but finding the hidden gems is always worth it.
Restaurants:
陳財記 (Chan Choi Kee) Chinese Restaurant
Market food with Cantonese traditional dishes. It's like my little restaurant. I bring many international artists here when I host an event. They serve top-quality dishes at a reasonable price. My favorite dish is their roast chicken, which sells very fast. I recommend you order it before you arrive.
Lung Fu Pao Modern Japanese Dining
A small Japanese Restaurant in Central, Hong Kong’s business and retail district. Very close to my boyfriend's home. We always go there for excellent sushi in fusion style or Kushiyaki. An adult magazine from HK serves as the inspiration for the restaurant's theme.
